unspoken nonstarter

An idea, plan, or option that everyone in the room silently agrees will never fly — but nobody actually says out loud. The unspoken nonstarter lives in the uncomfortable pause after someone floats something wild, where all the eye contact in the world does the work that polite mouths won't. It's the elephant in the brainstorm, the option on the whiteboard nobody erases because doing so would make the rejection too real. Group dynamics keep it technically 'in play' while everyone knows it's already dead.
