cooking mode

Cook mode is the state of being absolutely locked in and performing at peak — head down, nothing distracting you, output just flowing like you can't miss. Borrowed from the slang sense of 'cook' (to deliver brilliance), cook mode is the headspace rappers describe before laying down a career verse, the zone gamers enter before a perfect run, or the vibe when someone's Twitter thread is writing itself. It's focused excellence with the confidence dial turned all the way up. Do not interrupt someone in cook mode.

When someone fully commits to being unhinged, chaotic, or operating beyond all rational limits — cooked mode is the state you enter when sensible decision-making has left the chat entirely. Think rage-quitting at 3 AM, ordering an absurd amount of delivery food, or spamming every lane at once. It's not just being cooked; it's activating a distinct mode of existence where consequences are someone else's problem. Cooked mode is recognised, announced, and sometimes celebrated by witnesses who know better than to intervene.

The locked-in state where everything is clicking — your delivery is effortless, the words are coming fast, and you're operating on autopilot at a level your normal self can't consistently access. Flow mode isn't forced; it descends on you. In hip-hop, it's the zone where the rhythm feels natural and the bars stack perfectly. More broadly adopted in internet culture to describe any peak-performance mental state, from gaming to studying to creative work where you stop thinking and just do.

The specific mental and physical state of being fully committed to getting and staying high, where all other priorities recede and the sole focus is comfort, vibes, and whatever show you decided to start twenty minutes ago. Entering bake mode means the phone goes on do not disturb, the snacks are already out, and nobody is going anywhere for at least three hours. It's not just being high — it's an intentional lifestyle shift for the evening. Bake mode has its own rules: no drama, no errands, no answering anything that requires actual thought.

Jollof mode is a state of deep, single-minded focus on cooking or eating jollof rice — everything else can wait. When someone is in jollof mode, the kitchen is off-limits, requests will be ignored, and the pot will not be opened for inspection. It's also used to describe the mood at a gathering once the jollof arrives: conversation slows, plates get loaded, and everyone goes quiet in the best possible way. Jollof mode is not a metaphor — it's a genuine behavioral state recognized across West African households.
