gutted arc

The extended narrative trajectory of someone going through a prolonged loss streak — a story with a beginning, escalating failures, and hopefully a redemption end point that friends are still waiting to see. An L arc isn't a single bad day; it's a multi-week or multi-month saga of compounding setbacks that the people around you have started mentally charcing as chapters. The arc framing implies potential for growth, which is the internet's way of being almost kind about watching someone's situation get worse before it gets better.

The narrative progression someone goes through after a loss or painful experience, framed the way you'd describe a character's development in a story. Online, people track their own grief arc — the ugly cry phase, the numb phase, the 'I started going to the gym' phase — and share it as if they're the main character. Calling it an arc implies there's movement, even when it doesn't feel like it. It's a way of making sense of suffering by giving it a story structure: beginning, messy middle, and the hope of something after.

The story arc of a player — or occasionally a streamer or pro — during which their gameplay deteriorates so badly, so publicly, and so consistently that observers begin narrating it as a character development. The int arc is watched with fascination: each death builds the lore, each terrible decision adds a chapter. The arc framing implies it has a beginning, a chaotic middle, and an eventual resolution — usually either a ban, a public breakdown, or an unexpected comeback that redeems the whole thing cinematically.

The narrative trajectory of someone who consistently fumbles — a character development story that goes backwards, defined by increasingly impressive failures. Your throwing arc is the full plotline of your Ls: the missed promotion, the relationship implosion, the investment that somehow lost value faster than expected. While a redemption arc turns failure into triumph, a throwing arc doubles down with each episode. Online it's used self-deprecatingly by people who've accepted their role as the chaos agent of their own story and decided to lean into the lore.

The narrative trajectory — real or fictional — where a character, person, or situation spirals from manageable into completely, irreversibly cooked. Fans use cooked arc to describe the point in a show, sports career, or someone's online presence where the decline is so obvious it's almost poetic. It implies a story structure: things were fine, then they weren't, and now the audience is just watching the wreckage unfold in slow motion. Calling it an arc dignifies the disaster with structure.
