Definitions
A deprecated Twitch feature where one channel embedded another channel's live stream during downtime, sending viewers to the hosted stream without making them leave. Twitch removed the formal Host Mode in 2022, replacing it with Raids only. 'Hosting' still survives as a verb in chat for any kind of stream-driven shoutout.

- host with the most59%
(slang, humorous) An exceptional host.
- Lurking59%
Watching a stream without typing in chat — leaving the tab open, often muted, sometimes minimized. Twitch counts lurkers as viewers (which boosts streamer rankings), so lurking is socially encouraged. Chatters often type 'lurking' at the start to announce they're here but won't be interactive, then disappear.
- TwitchCon58%
The annual official Twitch convention, held in North America and Europe. A meet-up for streamers, viewers, partner programmes, and esports. In chat 'TwitchCon' is often used metonymically ('see you at TwitchCon') or as an event tag during the convention weekend when many streams move to IRL/event coverage.
- Mods asleep57%
A staple Twitch chat phrase posted whenever moderators are AFK and chat takes the opportunity to break a rule or post forbidden memes. Almost always followed by mass-posting of whatever the chat isn't usually allowed to do (a banned emote, a horny copypasta, raid taunts). Self-defeating: posting 'mods asleep' is itself a flag that wakes up mods.
- subathon56%
A livestream marathon (often on Twitch) whose length grows each time a viewer subscribes, sometimes running for days.
