The state of being so intensely aware of every sensation, thought, and moment that it stops being peaceful and starts being overwhelming — mindfulness taken to such an extreme that the present moment becomes a source of anxiety rather than calm. Hyper-mindfulness is what happens when you're so focused on noticing your breath that you start to feel like you might forget to breathe naturally. It's the meditation session that turns into an existential spiral. Awareness is good; hyper-mindfulness is awareness eating itself, and it's more common than the wellness industry likes to admit.
