Backstory or mythology that technically exists and is accessible but gets very little attention — the lore that's hiding in plain sight for people who bother to look but never becomes part of the main conversation. Low key lore is for the truly dedicated: the item description that contains a whole tragedy, the side character whose backstory is mentioned once in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene, the creator's old interview that reframes their entire catalog. It rewards the patient and punishes those who only skim the surface.

An exceptionally vast, dense, or sprawling accumulation of backstory — the kind of mythology so enormous it requires fan wikis, spreadsheets, and dedicated Discord channels just to navigate. Mega lore belongs to fictional universes with decades of canon, celebrities whose drama has fully eclipsed their actual work, or friend groups with so much shared history that onboarding a new member takes months. It's lore that has become its own self-sustaining ecosystem, growing faster than anyone can fully consume it.

Mythology taken to such an extreme level of complexity, density, and internal cross-referencing that it becomes almost inaccessible to casual engagement. Hyper lore is what happens when world-building escapes all editorial restraint: every object has a history, every history references another, and the lore index is longer than the actual story. Some people live for this. Most people bounce off it immediately. Hyper lore communities develop their own language and a quiet contempt for anyone who asks where to start.

Backstory or mythology that actively works against someone's reputation — the documented history of bad takes, embarrassing moments, problematic statements, or chaotic behavior that follows a person or brand around like a shadow. Unlike regular lore, which can be neutral or even flattering, negative lore is the stuff that gets screenshotted, archived, and brought back up the moment someone tries to rebrand. The internet has a long memory, and negative lore is the proof. It doesn't disappear; it just waits for the right moment to resurface.

Deep, often convoluted backstory. Originally gaming term; now applied to any situation: "the lore of my ex," "the lore of this bar," "deep lore." "Don't get her started — there's lore" warns the listener that the next 20 minutes will be spent on context for a five-second story.
