Definitions
A noob check is a test — sometimes deliberate, sometimes spontaneous — that reveals whether someone is a genuine beginner or just pretending not to know something. In gaming it might be an obvious trap a veteran would never fall into; in a fandom it's a basic lore question every true fan knows. Failing a noob check is embarrassing but instructive. Passing one you weren't expecting is a quiet flex. Either way, the noob check does not lie.
Asking which button opens the map is a noob check — if you don't know that you genuinely just started.

- int check70%
A call-out or self-assessment determining whether someone is playing intentionally badly in a game — deliberately dying, feeding kills, or throwing objectives on purpose. Dropping an int check on a teammate is equal parts accusation and interrogation: are you actually this bad or is something deliberate happening here? The check invites either a confession, a defensive explanation, or a meltdown in chat. A staple of competitive gaming communication, it has migrated into everyday discourse to question whether someone's terrible decision-making is wilful or just genuinely catastrophic.
- noob arc69%
A noob arc is the early phase of someone's journey with a game, fandom, or skill — the period when they were making obvious beginner mistakes, asking basic questions, and getting wrecked by people with more experience. Looking back on your noob arc is a rite of passage; it proves growth. Content creators often mine their noob arc footage for both laughs and inspiration, showing how far they've come since those catastrophically bad first sessions.
- noob69%
A newb or newbie; someone who is new to a game, concept, or idea; implying a lack of experience.
- npc check66%
An NPC check is a social test — formal or informal — designed to determine whether someone is thinking for themselves or just running on autopilot responses. It involves saying or doing something unexpected to see if they respond with genuine engagement or a scripted, robotic reaction. If someone passes an NPC check, they're capable of independent thought. If they fail it, they've proven the hypothesis. The concept was accelerated by TikTok's 'NPC trend' and threads questioning whether most people are just cycling through preprogrammed social scripts.
- noob66%
A beginner. "Newbie" → "noob." Can be affectionate ("don't flame him, he's a noob") or cutting (used as the final word in a taunt). Gaming contexts have both meanings active simultaneously.
