noob mode

A newb or newbie; someone who is new to a game, concept, or idea; implying a lack of experience.

A beginner. "Newbie" → "noob." Can be affectionate ("don't flame him, he's a noob") or cutting (used as the final word in a taunt). Gaming contexts have both meanings active simultaneously.

A mega noob is someone whose inexperience has reached legendary, almost impressive proportions — the player who doesn't know there's a jump button after an hour of play, or the tech person who calls IT because their monitor is off. Mega noob is usually deployed with theatrical exasperation, but there's often fondness underneath. Everyone starts somewhere, and the mega noob is just at a particularly early point on that journey.

A noober is a step beyond your standard noob — someone who not only lacks skill or knowledge but seems almost aggressively committed to staying that way. While a regular noob might grow out of it, a noober keeps asking the same questions, making the same mistakes, and generally refusing to learn from experience. The -er suffix implies ongoing, habitual noob behavior rather than a temporary state of ignorance.

Noob energy is the particular aura of wide-eyed inexperience someone gives off — the combination of enthusiasm, overconfidence, and cluelessness that marks a genuine beginner. It's not always negative; noob energy can be charming, especially when someone's genuinely excited about something they just discovered. But it also means you'll accidentally break things, ask questions veterans find embarrassing, and make choices that only make sense if you don't know any better yet.
