Parasocial mode is what someone slips into when they start engaging with a creator's content so heavily that the boundary between fan and friend starts blurring in their own head. Replying to every post like they'll be seen, getting emotionally affected by the creator's mood, feeling genuine excitement when acknowledged — even by an automated response. Parasocial mode isn't always a crisis; sometimes it's just a phase. But when it starts bleeding into real emotional investment in someone who doesn't know you exist, that's when the check becomes necessary.
I've fully entered parasocial mode with this podcast host — I caught myself telling my friends what 'he would think' about something that happened to me.
