Peak parasocial describes a moment or behavior that represents the ultimate expression of one-sided emotional investment — the fan who sobbed at the airport because a creator was passing through, the person who knows their favorite streamer's childhood home address but has never exchanged a direct word with them, the reply guy who has sent 4,000 unanswered comments. Peak parasocial is sometimes said admiringly within fandoms, sometimes used as a gentle intervention, and sometimes deployed as a brutal burn.
Buying a ticket to a city just to breathe the same air as a YouTuber who doesn't know you exist is peak parasocial and I say that with no judgment.
