The embarrassing or awkward outcome of talking too much — when the yap goes wrong. A yap fail happens when someone over-explains and loses the room, accidentally reveals too much, talks themselves out of something they wanted, or simply goes so long that the original point collapses under the weight of the tangents. It's the conversational equivalent of a self-own: you had the floor and fumbled it spectacularly by refusing to stop.
