Someone who talks too much, especially online. From 'yap' (to talk excessively). 2024-25 vintage. Affectionate when said about yourself; cutting when said about someone else.
To talk excessively about nothing important. A "yapper" is someone who won't stop talking; a "yap session" is a long unfocused conversation. "Stop yapping and tell me what you actually want for dinner." The word does the work of "rambling" plus a side-eye.
To talk, especially excessively; to chatter.
Describes someone who has fully internalized the philosophy that talking more is always better — that silence is the enemy and every thought deserves to be spoken aloud at length. The yap-pilled person has genuinely been converted to the gospel of yap and will evangelize it freely. They defend their verbal excess, encourage others to speak up, and see quiet people as a puzzle to be solved through conversation. It's an ideology as much as a habit.
Someone who yapps — who talks too much, too long, and often about things that don't require that much talking. A yaper is not necessarily malicious; they're just constitutionally unable to shut up, fueled by enthusiasm, anxiety, or a deep belief that every thought they have is worth sharing in full. The yaper in your friend group is the reason the group chat is always unread. They mean well. They simply have not yet discovered the gift of silence. Often self-identified with a mix of shame and pride.
